Products and Pricing

What are Product Records?

Products in Salesforce refer to the individual items that might be sold during a service or restocking job.

These could be whole kits like a 'Workplace hard first-aid kit' or the items within the kit such as 'Bandage small 1.5cmx2.5cm'.

Products in Salesforce are required to have a product code (e.g. 2212) and a 'product family' (e.g. Dressings / Pads / Swabs ).

What are Price Book Entries?

In order to sell a product it needs to have a price.
Each State and Territory has a default 'Price Book' which contains all of the products that are allowed to be sold in that region.

The Price Book contains Price Book Entries - records combining a Product and a Price.

How are Products and Price Book Entries Created?

Typically, Product and Price Book Entries are created automatically via sync from a region's finance system (most commonly MYOBA).
Some Accounts might have their own Price Books. At launch the Restocker App does not support Account specific Price Books and will default to the Region's default Price Book.

If new products need to be created it is preferable that they be created in the finance system first and synced overnight to Salesforce.
If the product is created inside of Salesforce and not reflected in the finance system then a service selling it will fail to integrate into the finance platform and invoices will not be raised.
