What is a Compliance, Competency and Proficiency
What are Compliances, Competencies and Proficiencies
Compliance
Something someone has to do in order to remain a member of St John.
Examples include:
- National Police Check
- Working with Children Check
- Child Protection Courses
These will typically be added to a members record by HR and maintained by HR. If something is part compliance and part competency, then it will fall under competency requirements due to reporting obligations within the organisations
Competency
This is any accredited training that will need to be reported to the government as part of our RTO obligations.
Examples include:
- Provide First Aid
- Certificate 4 in Leadership and Management
- Certificate II in Medical Service First Response (EHS)
This is managed and maintained by the Training team for any creation of Courses or units of competency relating to this.
Proficiency
Any internal training St John conducts that does not need to be reported to the government under our RTO obligations. Also training that only parts of the organisation need to complete (IE. Manual Handling as a proficiency vs Child Protection as a compliance)
Some examples might include:
- Administering a specific drug
- Manual Handling
- Continuous improvement annual books
- Upskilling courses
- Special training events
Depending on the specific proficiency these could be added by automation, the HR team or the training team.
