Types of Opportunities
What are opportunities
An opportunity in salesforce is traditionally a quote. For St John it will form both a Quote and also a sale depending on the specific opportunity type.
There is a mixture of manually created and automatically created opportunities. Please see the details below for more information.
Types of opportunities
Corporate Sales
Corporate Sales is a quote type opportunity for anyone who would like a quote before they buy Training or First Aid Products. It is not to be used for Donations or Event Health Services.
At this stage quotes can be created merged if the client wishes it, however for conversion to work properly you will need to generate separate invoices for the actual sales. Most commonly direct conversion will only be used for Product Quotes / Sales.
Note: Converting a Corporate Opportunity assumes the client has Credit terms sufficient to cover the order in good standing with St John.
Donation
Donations were created for the automated process from the web, however they can be used from within salesforce as well.
Recurring donations can only be generated from the website.
You would not use donation to convert Sponsorships or grants into revenue. Cases should be raised for finance to process.
Event Opportunity
Events opportunities are for Event Health Services Quotes that may be converted into orders.
Typically these will be generated directly from the Events EM object associated with them.
Industry Training
These will be generated for one of two reasons
- You are delivering an onsite quote and have premade the onsite course
- The course has been booked and you are preparing the opportunity as an order or future invoicing
These will never be manually created, you will always use the reserving method of a pubic course, or the Create Industry Opportunity on an industry type training course.
On account training
system generated after ‘make a booking’ function is used. This creates an open order that becomes an invoice after the course has been run. By default this will trigger automatically, however it can be disabled as needed on and account basis.
Prepaid training
A system generated sales order when payment has been received before the course is run and an invoice will be generated by MYOBA.
Product sales
A system generated order that sends a call to MYOBA with the order details. This is not something that would be manually created, instead you would always create a Corporate sale or use the point of sale system to generate these orders.
Restock
A special opportunity type generated by the restocking tool from within salesforce. Besides the unique source it otherwise operates in the same way as the product sale opportunity
