Create a Basic Page

Most pages on the St John SA website have been created using the Basic page content type.

Basic pages display a Slideshow block and Content block by default. However, you may delete these blocks and replace them with other block types, depending on your requirements.

1. Structure of a Basic page

The typical Basic page consists of:

1. Slideshow block (with one or more images) at the top of the page. The slideshow block can also have a title (as in the example below) and a caption under the title.

2. Breadcrumb (automatically generated)

3. One or more content blocks. Each content block can contain images, links, buttons, media or embedded pre-built elements such as a 'Tiled Block'.

It is possible to add other block types to a Basic page depending on your requirements. Multiple blocks can be added to a single Basic page. An example of this is the St John SA home page which contains several different types of blocks.

2. Create a Basic page

Select Content > Add content > Basic.

The Create Basic page is displayed.

3. Enter a title

Enter a Title for your page. The title is displayed in the breadcrumb and in the header (unless overridden).

4. Edit the slideshow and content blocks

Edit the slideshow block. See Edit Slideshow Block for more details.

Note: If you include the slideshow block, you must add at least one slide.

Edit the content block. See Add Content Block for more details.

5. Add more blocks

To add more blocks to the Basic page, click Add Block and select the required block from the popup. For more information about blocks, see chapter Working with Blocks.

If you are unsure which block to use, build the page in the test environment first, then replicate it in production.

6. Check your work

To check your edits before publishing, scroll to the bottom of the page:

  • Ensure the Published checkbox is not ticked.
  • Click Save.
  • Click Preview. Alternatively, you can click on the View tab at the top of the page.

To return to the Edit view, click the edit icon at the top right-hand corner of the banner.

7. Publish the page

When you are ready to publish the page, tick the Published checkbox and click Save.
