Edit a Menu Link

Complete this procedure to edit a menu link, e.g. change where it is displayed, disable it or edit its attributes.

1. Access the Menus page

In the Manage menu, select Structure > Menu.

The Menus page displays a list of all the main menus that have been added to the site.

Click the Edit menu button next to the relevant menu. The Edit menu page displays the sub-menus linked to the selected menu.

Use the 4 headed arrow to drag and drop the menu links to different positions as required. This will determine how the menu links are displayed on the website.

If you click on Show Row Weights, the WEIGHT column will be displayed. By selecting a different WEIGHT for a menu link, you can change where it appears under the main menu.

The lower the weight, the higher the menu link will appear in the list, and vice versa. The weights range from -50 to 50. Being the lowest number,-50 will always appear at the top of the list.

Take care when changing the position of menu links, either by using the 4 headed arrow or the weight. Ensure that all menu links are in the correct position before you save.

Deselect the Enabled checkbox if you wish do not wish the menu link to appear on the website.

Click on the Edit button next to the menu link you wish to edit.

The Edit menu link page is displayed.

Make the required edits. Refer to the table below for a description of the fields.

Field  Action
Menu link title Enter a title for the link. This is the text that will be displayed on the screen.
Link Enter the page the menu link will point to using the following format:

/parent link/title of page to be linked to

Examples:
  • /about-us/who-we-are
  • /store/restocking
Note: If you leave spaces between the words the link will not be saved. Ensure you use dashes in the place of spaces, e.g. 'about-us'.
Enabled Tick this checkbox if you want the menu link to be displayed. If it is unticked, the link will be hidden.
Description Leave blank.

Text entered in this field will be displayed when the user hovers over the link.
Show as expanded Tick this checkbox if the menu has child links that will appear when the user hovers over the menu.
ATTRIBUTES Do not edit attributes.
Parent link Select the parent menu that this menu link will be displayed under.

Examples:
  • ‘Shop’ is displayed under the Main Navigation menu. 
  • ‘Restock your existing first aid kit online’ is displayed under the 'Shop' menu link.
SIMPLE XML SITEMAP Do not edit this section.
Weight Select the weight of the link. This will determine where the link is positioned in the menu.

5. Save your changes

Click the Save button.
